Welcome to the Edna Drinkwater Elementary School. We look forward to the new school year and working in partnership with our students, parents and community.

Our school has Grades K-5 plus a Day Treatment Program and approximately 100 students.

School Arrival: The first bell rings at 8:30 a.m. We ask for your cooperation in having your student arrive no earlier than 8:30 a.m. Students who arrive before 8:30 a.m. are asked to wait in the lobby. When the 8:30 bell rings we ask that parents drop-off students in the tiled lobby area and students will continue to their classrooms to get settled for the day. The second bell will ring at 8:45 a.m. to signal that instruction has begun for the day. Students coming to school after 8:45 a.m. will be considered tardy and will need to stop in the office for a late pass.

School Dismissal: The school day ends at 3:05 p.m. Student walkers and private riders will be dismissed to the playground at 3:08 p.m. Parents and ride providers should check in with the on-duty teacher to sign the student/s out for the day. Buses begin arriving at 3:10 p.m. Please use the parking lot when picking up children at dismissal time so that the driveway remains clear and safe for the buses. It is very important that visitors do not park in our bus circle located in front of the school.

Please notify the main office if your child’s dismissal routine will be different than usual. In order to ensure your child’s safety, it is also important for us to know if another person is to pick up your child. The school, as well as the bus drivers, require written parental permission to change “drop-off” sites of students or to allow them to ride a different bus. Sending a note to school with your child explaining any changes is the best way for us to ensure your child’s safety.

Your child will not be dismissed to any adult who is not on your emergency sheet unless you have given us written/verbal permission to do so. We ask you to go to this extent for the safety of your child.

Additionally, if you are picking up/dismissing your child early from school, please check in at the office and then sign your child out on the 'dismissals' form in the lobby. The administrative assistant will call your child down to the office for you.

ABSENCES: When your child must be absent from school, please call the office by 9:30 a.m (338-3430) to inform us of the necessary absence. If we do not hear from you regarding a student absence, a courtesy call will be made home to ensure a child's whereabouts and safety. If you know of anticipated absences; i.e. doctor’s appointments, family holidays, travel, etc., a phone call is still appreciated.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM: Student breakfast cost is $1.00 per day. For any student who qualifies for free or reduced lunch, breakfast is free.

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM: Student lunch cost is $2.25 per day. The reduced rate is .40 cents per day. White Milk, Chocolate Milk and Juice are all .50 cents per item if lunch is brought from home, regardless of your free/reduced lunch status. Lunch menu choices are made by your student the week prior. Please send your child’s lunch money to school with them each Monday in an envelope clearly marked with the days for which you are paying.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ART CLASSES: Physical Education classes are conducted outside when weather permits. Students should wear or bring sneakers for PE class. Children are encouraged to bring an old shirt to school to wear over their clothes when doing “messy” art projects.

MEDICATIONS: If your child needs medication it will be necessary for you to send to school a medical authorization form with your physician’ssignature. (A copy is enclosed for your convenience.) This form needs to be completed each year your child attends Drinkwater School. We are not allowed to dispense ANY TYPE of medications (over the counter or prescribed) without this form.

Prescribed medications must be in the original bottle from the pharmacy. Over the counter medications need to come in their original containers as well. NO MEDICATIONS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF INHALERS MAY BE TRANSPORTED TOSCHOOL BY STUDENTS. Please contact the school nurse if you need more information about this district policy.

VOLUNTEERS: We welcome parent volunteers! A volunteer application will need to be filled out and submitted to the principal for your participation in activities as a volunteer.

PTG: We encourage all parents to be active in our parent teacher group. You will hear directly from our PTG chairperson about how you can get involved. For your convenience, a PTG bulletin board is in our lobby. You can check there for any ongoing or upcoming events and for communications from the PTG.
